The railway between Hultsfred and Västervik is the longest narrow-gauge railway in the Nordics. The 71 kilometer long railway was opened to public traffic on 16 November 1879 and was built with a gauge of 891 mm, three Swedish feet. The narrow-gauge railway today is a living museum that shows what it was like to travel by train in the past. In summer, both steam trains and rail buses run on the route, which has been declared a building monument. The railway that the village created lives on and keeps developing and is once again an asset and resource both for residents and visitors.
